I remember having a very tasty alligator burger and a couple of beers while the jukebox was playing country songs. Possible one of the weirdest places I've ever stayed at! Nothing. There’s a motel out back...never saw the rooms...roll the dice. I stayed there for one night many years ago (must have been 1990 or 1991). Old Florida is disappearing. The Desert Inn & Restaurant in Yeehaw Junction, bang in the "empty" middle of Florida makes for an interesting stop-over. It's a unique place, which appears out of nowhere. Food looks great and the decor is amazing-you could really see the influence from its origins as a brothel!

The truck traffic through the junction is amazing, fast and a little bit scary. It is on the National Register of Historic Places - there is a sign to that effect out front - but calling it a museum was a stretch. In its 120 year lifespan, the Desert Inn has operated as a trading post, bar, brothel, gas station, dance hall, and according to Zicheck, even as a cat house. Wonder what will happen now?
